ABUSHAN: DESIGN-DIALOGUES IN JEWELLERY
A Convention on Jewellery from Grass to Gold February 4-6th, 2011, New Delhi, India

ABUSHAN (adornment): Design Dialogues in Jewellery is intended to capture the diversity, symbolism, artistic form in Jewellery and pay homage to the craftsperson from all over the World.

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

The genesis for WCC’s association with jewellery dates back to 2002 when WCC – Asia Pacific Region hosted the Young Craftpersons Competition. The second competition was hosted in India by Crafts Council of India in 2004. The convention included workshops, lectures and demonstrations by speakers and authorities drawn from all areas of expertise in jewellery- historians, designers and researchers, from all over the world. This workshop and convention was a big success.

In her visits to all the five regions - Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and Latin America during the first year of her term as President, Ms. Usha Krishna also realized that the one common craft that could bring together all five regions was jewellery. Considering the previous experience with the success of “Grass to Gold” in 2004, it has been decided to bring together all five regions on a common platform in an event where jewellery is the theme. Thus has come about the concept of “ABUSHAN”.
