Africa Days in Vienna
WCC chose Vienna, one of the cultural centres of Europe, to launch an exhibition of African crafts in conjunction with the “Africa Tage Wien.” This is a popular social and cultural event, that took place from 24th July to 2nd August 2009,

Leading crafts persons, representing many national/regional clusters in Africa, including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Tanzania , Benin and Kenya, took part in the exhibition. The crafts were made from natural materials using simple indigenous tools. More importantly, these craft products, which included baskets, jewellery, wood carving and metal work, were made from sustainable, renewable and recycled material.

The unique feature of the WCC stall was that it presented the attendees with an array of high quality African craft where the individual artisans were highlighted. This was very much appreciated by the attendees. The participants, in turn, were happy that their products were well received. They also had an opportunity to exchange ideas and get inputs in design and craft processes from the attendees and fellow crafts people

This exhibition not only accomplished Mrs. Usha Krishna’s vision for revitalizing African crafts sector by showcasing their products in Europe, it is also is promising to bring in new African countries into WCC.
