2010 International Patchwork and Embroidery Festival
Golcuk Municipality, Turkey
11-13 June 2010

It was my pleasure to have been invitated to participate in this very interesting festival.

It was a very well conducted workshop-cum-exhibition where nearly 100 stalls were there, of out of which about 60 were specifically focused on embroidery, textiles and patchwork.  Apart from Turkey, six other countries participated.  It was a wonderful coming together of craftspeople from different parts of the world.  It would be appropriate to say that the language of craft overtook the language of the land, as all participants were able to interact with each other in spite of not knowing the language of the other person, and all of them learned a thing or two from each other!  Even more important to note is the fact that each of the visiting craftsperson was hosted by a member of the local community, which in itself is ample evidence to prove to the world how loving and wonderful is the craft community that we belong to.

The organization of the events kept the participants busy the whole day from the morning till late in night.  Apart from craft products display and demonstrations, we were treated to a variety of traditional dances, music and local food and drinks.  All the participants and visitors actively took part in the events and festivities and thoroughly enjoyed being there.  It left me thinking that we all should take a cue from an experience like this and repeat it in our own homeland, in different parts of the world.
